Water Dispenser Recalled Over Suffocation Concerns

IKEA is recalling one of its water dispensers for pets after two dogs reportedly got their heads stuck inside the dome and suffocated.

The recall is in effect for the LURVIG Water Dispenser for Pets as of July 11, 2018.

IKEA is urging any customers who have that model of water dispenser to stop using it immediately and to bring it to any IKEA store for a full refund.

"At IKEA, the safety and security of our products is our top priority, which is why we have decided to recall the LURVIG water dispenser," said Petra Axdorff, business area manager at IKEA of Sweden AB, in a release. "We are deeply saddened by these events and know that pets are important and loved family members for many of our customers."

It is estimated that around 7,700 units have been sold in Canada between October 2017 and June 2018 -- another 16,700 units were sold in the United States during that time.

Proof of purchase (a receipt) is not required for this recall.
