Local MPPs Named To Ford Cabinet

Three MPPs from southwestern Ontario will be part of the new Ontario cabinet.

Doug Ford was sworn in as Premier of Ontario on Friday morning and announced the make-up of his cabinet. Elgin-Middlesex London MPP Jeff Yurek has been named Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry, Monte McNaughton of Lambton-Kent-Middlesex is the new Minister of Infrastructure, and Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman has been named Minister of Agriculture.

Ford also named leadership campaign opponents Christine Elliott and Caroline Mulroney to his inner circle. Elliott will be Ontario's Deputy Premier and Minister Health and Long-Term Care. Mulroney has been named Attorney General and Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs.

In total, Ford's cabinet will have 21 members, including himself.

The education portfolio will be handled by Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson, while Vic Fedeli will be the Minister of Finance.

"I will never forget why I'm here: to work for the people of Ontario," Ford said in a statement issued Friday. "I promised the people that I would help make our great province the best place in North America when it comes to business, creating jobs and raising a family. And I am going to keep my promise."
