Environment Canada To Investigate Storm Damage

Thunderstorms that swept across southern Ontario on Wednesday afternoon have led Environment Canada to send a team to Norfolk County to investigate.

The storms raced across the region, bringing strong winds, heavy rain, and hail in some areas.

According to Environment Canada, there was considerable damage near the Norfolk County community of Waterford and near Jarvis, a town in Haldimand County.

"Approximately 1 km to the west of Jarvis, several trees were uprooted or sheared apart. Some of the branches were embedded into the roof of a house," the weather agency said in a statement on its website. "As well, the porch of the house and a nearby barn were destroyed. Nickel to quarter size hail was also reported."

A survey team is being sent to the area to further investigate the damage.
