St. Thomas Woman Accused Of Abusing 911

Playing with the phone has resulted in a mischief charge.

St. Thomas police say they received at least ten 911 calls on Friday. The caller would not respond when dispatchers spoke and would remain on the open line.

Staff Sergeant Kim Manuel says in a release that the caller manipulated their cellphone to make it difficult for officers to determine the location of the calls, or follow up to see if a real emergency was taking place.

The caller was finally located, but they denied calling 911 multiple times. However, after some investigation, police were able to identify the caller.

A 51-year-old St. Thomas woman is charged with one count of mischief.

Police want to use this incident to remind the public that 911 is not for play or pranks. The number is for life-or-death emergencies only.
