St. Thomas Police Nab Drunk Drivers

Police in St. Thomas say two men in their 20s are facing drunk driving charges after two separate crashes earlier this week.

Officers say in the first case, a 29-year-old man was pulled off the road after his pickup truck rear-ended another vehicle that was waiting to make a left turn from Sunset Dr. onto Chester St. at around 4pm Wednesday.

Police say the driver who was in the truck failed a roadside sobriety test, so he was taken in for further breath tests, which indicated his blood alcohol content was four times the legal limit.

He was later charged with impaired driving and breaching his probation and released with conditions and a future court date.

In the second case, police say a 26-year-old man was arrested after he hit a parked car while he was riding his e-bike.

Officers say that happened at around 5pm Wednesday on Malakoff St. in St. Thomas.

Some concerned citizens who witnessed the crash tipped off police by calling 911.

When officers arrived at the scene, they arrested the driver and took him in for some breath tests. Those test indicated the man had one and a half times the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

He was also charged with impaired driving and released with conditions and a future court date.
