Heat Prompts Weather Statement For Monday

A blast of summer-like weather is going to hit southwestern Ontario to start the new week.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Monday and Monday night, as a warm and humid air mass blankets the region.

The weather statement covers the following areas:

  • Windsor-Leamington-Essex County
  • Chatham-Kent-Rondeau Park
  • London - Parkhill - Eastern Middlesex County
  • Strathroy - Komoka - Western Middlesex County
  • Rodney - Shedden - Western Elgin County
  • St. Thomas - Aylmer - Eastern Elgin County
  • Sarnia - Petrolia - Western Lambton County
  • Watford - Pinery Park - Eastern Lambton County
The weather agency says daytime high temperatures could break the 30 C mark and evening lows may not dip below 20 C.

Elevated heat and humidity may cause health problems for some people. Everyone is at risk, according to Environment Canada, but the elderly, young children, and infants are more vulnerable.

Hydration is important. Drink plenty of cool, water-based liquids even if you don't feel thirsty. Be sure to dress for the weather if you must be outside for long periods of time, and be sure to spend time in an air-conditioned place.

One local non-profit is offering a place to go for people who are most vulnerable to the heat. The Downtown Mission is opening its air-conditioned space into the early evening hours of Monday, to give individuals and families experiencing discomfort from the heat and humidity a chance to cool down and rehydrate. A refrigerated fountain and bottle refill station has been donated by Reno Pros Windsor.
