Virtue Among World’s Most Famous Female Athletes

It makes sense that being part of the most decorated figure skating pair in Olympic history would make a person famous.

According to a list compiled by ESPNW, London native Tessa Virtue is the 16th most famous female athlete in the world. The sports network released a list this week of the 25 most famous female athletes. Not surprisingly, the athlete at the top of the list is tennis player Serena Williams. Maria Sharapova and Venus Williams round out the top three.

“With partner Scott Moir, Canadian ice dancer Tessa Virtue became figure skating’s most decorated Olympian by securing two more gold medals at the Pyeongchang Games,” wrote Elaine Teng in the paragraph on Virtue that accompanies the list. “Their steamy free dance to “Moulin Rouge” set the internet ablaze with fevered speculation about whether the two are a couple in real life, a question Ellen DeGeneres tackled head-on in an interview on her show.”

The rankings were compiled by looking at Google Trend scores, endorsement dollars, and social media followings.
