UPDATE: London Man In Custody After Suspicious Package Found

A London man is facing charges after police found a suspicious package in his apartment.

London police went to a unit at Highland Village Apartments at 501 Wilkins St. Sunday afternoon to speak with a man living there.

While checking on the man, police found a suspicious package inside his room.

The man was arrested and three floors of the apartment complex were evacuated as a precaution.

The London Police Service's Explosive Disposal Unit went to the residence to assess the package. Through further examination, the team determined that the package was a hoax and was constructed to resemble an explosive device.

The package was removed from the apartment and dismantled in a secure location. A pellet gun and crossbow were also seized.

A 48-year-old London man is charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a weapon contrary to a court order
  • Possession of an explosive substance with intent to endanger life
  • Possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence
The man is in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
