Police Appeal For More Tips In Abduction Case

Five days after a London man was arrested in connection with the Mother's Day abduction of a 4-year-old girl, police are hoping the public can help them retrace the movements of the car used in the kidnapping.

London police are asking anyone who spotted an older model, four-door, gold or beige Chevy Impala between May 1 and May 14 to call them at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

The appeal for more information about the vehicle comes as police continue to investigate the abduction on Melsandra Ave., near Barker St. last Sunday. According to police, a man stopped his car, got out, grabbed the girl and put her in his car before driving off. It's alleged he touched her inappropriately while she was in the car. When the car stopped, she was able to get out and run home.

Lawrence Allen Thompson, 65, was charged Tuesday with abduction of a person under 14 years of age, kidnapping, sexual assault of a person under 16 years of age, and sexual interference with a person under 16 years of age.

The former custodian with the Thames Valley District School Board was scheduled to return to court on the charges Friday.
