Truck Clocked At Over 175km/h On 401

Provincial police are reminding drivers to slow down heading into the long weekend after officers clocked a pickup truck doing over 175 km/h on Hwy. 401 near Dutton.

The grey truck was travelling down the westbound lanes when Elgin OPP pulled it over around 6pm on Wednesday.

The driver, a 46-year-old Toronto man, was charged with stunt driving. The man's licence has also been suspended for seven days and his vehicle impounded for one week.

Excessive speeding or aggressive driving is considered among the fatal four behaviours that case death on the province's roadways, police have said. The other three causes are distracted driving, impaired driving, and not wearing a seat belt.

"The Elgin County OPP would like to remind all road users that this long weekend will see greater volumes of traffic on our roadways. Officers will be out targeting the fatal four over the long weekend," OPP said in a statement.
