Port Burwell East Beach Gets Blue Flag

Another area beach will be flying a blue flag this summer.

Environmental Defence has unveiled its annual list of blue flag beaches and the Port Burwell East Beach has joined the list this year.

“We are proud to present the Municipality of Bayham with its first Blue Flag,” said Kelsey Scarfone, Blue Flag program manager with Environmental Defence in a news release issued Tuesday. “Port Burwell East Beach can boast not only pristine swimming waters and excellent facilities but also sustainable management practices with responsible stewardship of local ecosystems.”

Blue flags are awarded to beaches and marinas that meet "high international standards in water quality, environmental management, environmental education, and safety and services," according to Environmental Defence.

“The Municipality of Bayham earning the Blue Flag designation for the Port Burwell East Beach is a clear sign for visitors to our community that they are in for an excellent experience,” said Mayor Paul Ens. “This is a great achievement for our Municipality, and we look forward to flying the flag for the first time and for many years to come!”

In total, 27 beaches will fly blue flags this summer.

Others in the region include the Port Glasgow Beach in West Elgin, Port Stanley Main Beach, and the main beach and marina in Bayfield.
