Caring Young Mother Remembered

Condolences are pouring in for a Huron County woman who was found dead at the side of the road Thursday, hours after she failed to return home from an evening walk.

Laura Wigelsworth of Vanastra was last seen walking along Quebec Rd. around 9pm on Wednesday. Provincial police confirmed on Friday what the 27-year-old's family had feared -- that a body found by a civilian near Front Rd, north of Vanastra was that of Wigelsworth.

The death is being considered "suspicious in nature" by OPP. An autopsy to determine a cause of death was scheduled for Friday.

Wigelsworth is being remembered as a beautiful, smart, and giving person. She was a mother and was engaged to be married this August.

"She was not deserving of the end she was given," Wigelsworth's older sister Charyl Phillips wrote on a GoFundMe page. The campaign was launched to raise money to cover the cost of Wigelsworth's funeral. By Friday afternoon, nearly $4,000 toward the $10,000 goal had been donated.

Invitations to Wigelsworth's summer wedding had already been mailed and many of the replies sent back.

"Every one of them returned will be a sad reminder of what will never be," Phillips said online.

Wigelsworth, the youngest of three, had been spending extra time caring for her father who was diagnosed with ALS earlier this year. She leaves behind a 10-year-old son, an 8-year-old daughter, and a 3-year-old who would have soon been her step-daughter.

"This is a difficult time for all of us, a sweet, fun, caring young mother was taken away from us unexpectedly. A future family was destroyed. So many lives have been turned upside down, mostly affecting the young children," Phillips continued.

Friends of Wigelsworth and her family have been expressing their sadness and condolences through the fundraising website.

"To the family and friends of this beautiful woman. As a community, we will rally together and help in any way we can," stated one post. Another simply stated, "there are no words."

Front Rd. between 5th Ave. in Vanastra and Hwy. 8 is still closed as Huron OPP continue to investigate. They are reminding citizens to always be "mindful of their personal safety."

Any with information about Wigelsworth's death is asked to call police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
