Dozens of Guns Turned In During Amnesty

Quite a few Londoners took advantage of an opportunity to get rid unwanted guns.

London police say dozens of firearms were turned in during the month long amnesty program. In total, 69 guns and several kilograms of ammunition were turned over to London police. Led by the OPP, the Gun Amnesty Program saw police services across Ontario allow citizens to surrender unwanted or illegally-owned firearms to police.

“This was an opportunity for those who may have had unwanted firearms in their homes to dispose of them in a safe manner to ensure they didn’t end up in the hands of criminals,” said Deputy Chief Steve Williams. “We are very pleased so many people took advantage of the amnesty to help make London safer.”

London police say they received 46 long guns, ten restricted firearms, four prohibited firearms, nine BB guns, and about 15 kg of ammunition.

All of the items will be destroyed.
