Lightning Win 5th Division Title, Eliminate Edge 106-101

The London Lightning continue a familiar path in the postseason.

The Lightning wrapped up their third straight NBLC Central Division championship, and their fifth overall, with a 106-101 win over the St. John's Edge Sunday afternoon at Budweiser Gardens. They take the best-of-seven division championship series four games to two.

London now awaits the NBLC Finals with the Atlantic Division champion Halifax Hurricanes.

It's also the first division title for first-year Lightning head coach Keith Vassell.

It was a back and forth battle between the competitors, with the Edge in a do-or-die situation. The Lightning held a small two-point lead after one quarter and stretched it to a 46-40 lead at halftime. The Edge roared back in the third quarter by outshooting London 36-29, but the Lightning was able to pull away down the stretch.

Garrett Williamson led London in scoring with 25 points, and in defence with ten rebounds for a double-double. He shot 10-for-19 from the floor and sank all four free throws he shot.

Kirk Williams, Jr. scored 17 points off the bench, and Ryan Anderson added 16 points for the Lightning.

Carl English scored 21 points to lead the Edge. Ryan Reid and Charles Hinkle each sank 14. Desmond Lee was St. John's defensive leader with 14 boards.

The schedule for the NBLC Finals is yet to be determined.
