Ontario's police watchdog has launched an investigation into the death of a man in Innerkip.
The Special Investigations Unit was called to the Oxford County community early Monday morning after the death of a 54-year-old man. The SIU says a 911 call was made around 1am on April 23 regarding a man in distress.
OPP responded to the area of Oxford Rd. 22 and Oxford Rd. 29, where a vehicle was found at the side of the road. The OPP's tactical response unit was also called to the scene.
When officers approached the vehicle they found a man inside who was suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead in hospital.
"At this time, three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to this incident," the SIU said in a statement released Monday. "The post-mortem is scheduled for tomorrow in London."
Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to contact the SIU's lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
