Crashes Force Closure of Hwy. 402

Middlesex OPP say a collision involving a minivan and a fuel tanker truck forced the closure of the eastbound lanes of Hwy. 402.

The collision was one of nearly 20 in a three-hour span Friday night, as winter-like weather blanketed the region.

Around 11:30pm Friday, police say the minivan and tanker truck collided in the eastbound lanes of Hwy. 402 near Longwoods Rd. According to investigators, the driver of the minivan lost control and hit the tractor trailer, which was loaded with propane.

The tanker then went out of control before rolling onto its side in the median.

The driver of the van, who was the only person in the vehicle, was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The truck driver was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Then, around 4:30am Saturday, a westbound tractor trailer went out of control, entered the median and came to a stop just short of hitting the tanker truck. Police closed the westbound lanes at Colonel Talbot Rd. in order to remove the truck, but re-opened them around 2pm Saturday.

The eastbound lanes were re-opened shortly after 4pm, according to the OPP.
