London Police Offering Gun Amnesty Program

If you have any illegally owned firearms, London police say they'll take them off your hands.

London police are taking part in a province-wide gun amnesty program led by the OPP during the month of April. Police say it's meant to "provide citizens with a safe way to surrender weapons and enhance public safety."

Beginning April 1, police won't recommend weapons-related charges against people who turn in illegally owned guns, as long as the guns haven't been used in a crime. The amnesty program also covers other weapons, accessories, or ammunition.

Interested gun owners can call the London Police Service's non-emergency number at 519-661-5670 to arrange for officers to attend and safely retrieve the weapons.

Police say it's important to note that under no circumstances should anyone bring guns or ammunition directly to police headquarters.
