Picture Proves Costly For Illegal Hunter

A Straffordville man has pleaded guilty to hunting without a proper licence after conservation officers saw a photo of him with a dead deer.

Officials with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) say Jeffery Marr pleaded guilty on March 29 to hunting a white-tailed deer and was fined $2,000.

A release from the MNRF says a provincial court heard that Marr was hunting in Straffordville with archery equipment on December 29, 2017 when he shot a deer. A photo that conservation officers later received showed Marr with a deer that was killed and the investigation that followed revealed that Marr killed it without a licence.

Officers also seized some deer meat during their investigation.

The MNRF is encouraging anyone who has information about a natural resources violation to give their tip line a call at 1-877-847-7667 toll-free anytime. You can also call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
