Knights Fall To Greyhounds 6-3, Attack Is Next

The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds scored three straight late in the game to put away the London Knights Sunday.

The Hounds walked away as OHL regular season champions following their 6-3 win over the Knights at the Essar Centre.

With the loss, the Knights finish the season with 82 points and the fifth playoff seed. They will take on fourth-seed Owen Sound in the first round of the OHL playoffs.

Josh Nelson got to the Hounds first when his goal put London up 1-0 at 3:25 in the first stanza. Hayden Verbeek tied the game for Sault Ste. Marie two and half minutes later. However, the Knights held a 2-1 lead at first intermission thanks to Evan Bouchard's 25th goal of the year, on the power play.

Noah Carroll used the power play to tie the game at two-all for the Greyhounds midway through the second period, then Barrett Hayton put Sault Ste. Marie in the lead with a power-play goal of his own. Tyler Rollo tied the game for London at 3-3 with an extra-man score, but a goal by the Hounds' Jack Kopacka gave them a 4-3 lead after two periods.

Sault Ste. Marie's Morgan Frost provided insurance with a goal at 2:40 in the third period. Joe Carroll put the game away late in regulation.

Jordan Kooy stopped 34 Hounds shots in net for London. Tyler Johnson had 23 saves for Sault Ste. Marie.

Game 1 of the playoffs is Thursday night at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound.
