Check Smoke Alarms When The Clocks Spring Ahead

As Daylight Saving Time begins this weekend, local fire officials say it should act as a fire safety reminder.

The London Fire Department is reminding London residents to replace the batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms when they set their clocks ahead Sunday morning.

“In order for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to do their job, they need to have working batteries,” said Acting Deputy Fire Chief Jack Burt, in a news release.

Fire officials say carbon monoxide alarms must be installed outside of all sleeping areas if your home has a fuel-burning appliance, fireplace or attached garage.

The clocks move forward one hour at 2am on Sunday.
