Charges Laid After Truck Hits Restaurant Sign

A 25-year-old man faces several charges after a stolen pickup truck slammed into a restaurant sign in London.

Around 11:30am on Wednesday, police say they were investigating a report of a stolen vehicle. However, police say there was no attempt to chase it.

The truck then hit the sign at Under the Volano at the intersection of Wharncliffe Rd. and Riverside Dr. The driver ran away, but was arrested a short distance away. According to police, an officer suffered a broken hand during the foot chase.

A man suffered minor injuries in the collision. The Special Investigations Unit was notified, but because of the nature of the injuries, it did not invoke its mandate.

Police say a 25-year-old man is charged with possession of property obtained by crime, dangerous operation of a vehicle, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, possession of break-in tools, and resisting arrest.

Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent in online anonymously to www.londoncrimestoppers.com
