Accused Fraudster Pulls Knife On Police

Police in St. Thomas trying to make a fraud arrest were threatened by a man with a box cutter on Tuesday.

A man claiming he had almost $20,000 to deposit tried to open a chequing account and get a credit card from the CIBC on Talbot St. around 1pm. Bank employees believed the man was using stolen identification and call police.

When St. Thomas police arrived the man took off out of the bank. Officers caught up with him on Curtis St. They alleged the man then pulled a box cutter out while resisting arrest.

The officers were not hurt and the man was arrested.

A 32-year-old London man is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, fraud over $5,000, resisting arrest, identity theft, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The man was scheduled to appear in St. Thomas court on Wednesday.
