Family Day Fun And Closures

Londoners might not be able to run their usual errands but there will be lots of activities in the city to partake in this Family Day.

The provincial holiday, which falls on the third Monday in February, will see grocery stores, shopping malls, including White Oaks Mall, Masonville Place, and Westmount Shopping Centre, closed for the day. The LCBO, Beer Stores, and the Labatt Retail Store on Richmond St. will also be locked up.

Banks, schools, and provincial and municipal government office will not open their doors. But there will be mail delivery, as Family Day is not a holiday for federal employees.

The LTC will be running on a Sunday schedule.

For those looking for something to do with the kids, the Kinsmen Fanshawe Sugar Bush will be open from 10am to 3pm.

Public skates are being held at five city arenas free of charge. Skates run from 1pm-3pm at Kinsmen Arena on Granville St., Stronach Arena on Sandford St., Medway Arena on Sherwood Forest Square, Carling Arena on Grosvenor St., and at Lambeth Arena on Beattie St. There will also be a two-hour free family skate at the Argyle Arena on Wavell St., hosted by the Argyle Community Association from 3pm to 5pm.

Storybook Gardens is offering horse drawn wagon rides, an all-day pancake breakfast, and a visit from the 9 ft. Polar Bear - Can Bear. Festivities run 10am-5pm.

The Museum of Ontario Archaeology will be open from 10am to 4pm with indoor and outdoor activities.

London's Children's Museum is challenging families to spend quality time together playing oversized games. Families can participate in Giant Snakes & Ladder, Connect Four, Human Hungry Hippos or Kerplunk. Activities run 10am to 5pm.

At Eldon House at 481 Ridout St. North from 1pm-4pm, families can tour London’s oldest residence while participating in hands-on activities for children and adults in the Interpretive Centre. Admission is $10 per person/$20 per family.

In a matinee game, the London Knights take on the Windsor Spitfires at Budweiser Gardens. Gametime is 2pm.
