Careless Charge Laid In Transport Rollover

Provincial police have charged a 57-year-old Tecumseh man following a tractor-trailer rollover that shut down a section of Hwy. 401 west of London for several hours Wednesday night.

The big rig was heading west on the highway, near Dunborough Rd. when the driver lost control, veering into the ditch just before 6:30pm. While trying to get the transport back on the road, the driver over-corrected, causing it to flip onto its side, said Elgin OPP. The trucker was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

All westbound lanes of the highway were closed at Currie Rd. for roughly five and a half hours.

"The OPP would like to thank the motoring public for their patience while emergency crews worked as quickly as possible to re-open the westbound lanes of Highway 401," Constable Ed Sanchuk said in a statement.

The Ministry of Environment was notified about the crash as a small amount of diesel leaked from the truck's fuel tank.

The trucker, a 57-year-old from Tecumseh, is now charged with careless driving.

This is the second crash that has shut down the 401 in the Dutton-area this week. On Tuesday, two transport trucks collided as one was pulling back onto the highway from a service centre. That crash kept the westbound lanes closed at Currie Rd. for roughly five hours.
