17 Dead In Florida High School Shooting

At least 17 people are dead and a 19-year-old is in police custody following a shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida.

CNN reports that local police responded to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Wednesday just before 3pm after receiving reports of the shooting, which sent students and staff running out of the building in a panic.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel confirmed to CNN that at least 17 people are dead and another 14 have been taken to area hospitals.

A former student at the school, 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, has been arrested in connection with the shooting. According to Israel, Cruz was expelled for unspecified disciplinary reasons.
