PC Party To Select New Leader On March 10

The Conservative Party of Ontario has announced the date when it will vote on a new leader to lead the party into the upcoming election.

Wednesday evening, the PC Party said it met with members from Leadership Election Organization Committee (LEOC) to confirm the details of the 2018 Ontario PC Leadership Race.  The party has chosen March 10, 2018 as the day its members will vote in a new leader.

“I am excited to announce that the Ontario PC Party has a path forward to selecting our next leader and future premier," said PC Party President Jag Badwal in a statement. "The new leader will have a united Party behind them ready to fight and win the upcoming election... The Ontario PC Party will come out of this united, and stronger than ever."

The Ontario Progressive Conservative caucus chose Vic Fedeli as its interim leader last week after allegations of sexual misconduct forced Patrick Brown to resign as party leader.  Fedeli will be allowed to run in the upcoming leadership race if he chooses to.

"The 2018 Ontario PC Leadership Race will see party members from every region of the province able to vote and select Ontario’s future premier. Balloting will be conducted by secure remote electronic voting," said LEOC Chair Hartley Lefton. "This open, democratic process will not only allow for greater engagement of our members, but will position us strongly in the months to come so that together the Party can bring about change that works for Ontario families.”

The provincial election is scheduled for June 7, 2018.
