The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority says water levels will rise in local rivers and creeks, but not enough to cause significant flooding.
It says minor runoff is expected as warmer temperatures cause snow to melt over the next couple of days.
"The UTRCA does not anticipate serious flooding at this time," the UTRCA says in a statement released Wednesday afternoon. "Peak flows are expected to occur starting Friday and continuing into the weekend in downstream areas. Water levels will remain elevated over the weekend."
While water levels are elevated, the conservation authority is reminding people to be very careful near rivers and other waterways. It says ice is unstable and thing, while streambanks are slippery and the water is very cold. It says children and pets should especially be kept away from waterways.
"The UTRCA’s flood control reservoirs at Fanshawe, Wildwood and Pittock Conservation Areas are at seasonal levels," it says. "UTRCA officials are monitoring the situation, and will report on any changing conditions if necessary."
