Extremely Cold And Snow Squall Warnings Issued

Old man winter is hitting the London-area especially hard right now.

Environment Canada says there is a snow squall warning and an extreme cold warning in effect because of extremely cold temperatures in the forecast.

Snow squalls are expected to develop southeast of Lake Huron Thursday morning and they could dump up to 15 cm on the area in 12 hours or less.

Right now, the area that appears to be in for the worst of the storm stretches from near Grand Bend towards Strathroy and Mount Brydges. It's expected to affect highways 21, 402 and to a lesser extent the 401 west of the 401/402 split. Those snow squalls will likely continue through the day Thursday and into Friday.

As for the cold, forecasters say a cold snap is going to start Thursday and stretch right into Saturday.

A bitterly cold flow of air is expected to bring extremely cold temperatures of at least -30 C, which would trigger an extreme cold warning.

There is relief in sight, though. Environment Canada says the cold snap should end by Sunday with forecasted highs near or above the freezing mark for Monday.
