London Doctor, CK Residents Inducted Into The Order Of Canada

A doctor from London and two Chatham natives are among 125 new appointments to the Order of Canada.

Governor General Julie Payette announced the newest inductees on Friday.

London's Dr. Peter John Fowler, of the Fowler Kennedy Sport Med Clinic at Western University, is being recognized "for his pioneering contributions to the development of sport medicine in Canada."

Chatham resident Douglas Stenton has been nominated "for his enduring contributions to the preservation of Canada’s northern heritage.” And Carol Hopkins of Thamesville has been inducted "for her contributions to the fields of addictions and mental health, and as an advocate for culturally based treatment services."

The recipients, who also include Star Trek actor Willam Shatner and Canadian singer-songwriter Jann Arden, will be invited to accept their Order of Canada insignia at a ceremony on a yet to be determined date.

The Order of Canada was created in 1967 and is one of the country's highest civilian honours, which recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.
