Accused Hit And Run Killer Expected To Plead Guilty

It appears the woman accused in the hit-and-run that killed Deborah Titus intends to plead guilty.

Brittany Boyce appeared in court by video from the Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre on Wednesday. An agent acting on behalf of her lawyer Jim Dean asked that the case be put over until Friday, when a date for a plea will be set.

The 29-year-old is charged with manslaughter and assault with a weapon after Titus was hit by an SUV on Dundas St. and Ashland Ave. just before 2pm on November 21. Titus, 64, had been trying retrieve her stolen purse from the vehicle when the driver pulled away, hitting her. A bystander who had come to Titus' aid was dragged a short distance by the vehicle and suffered minor injuries.

An arrest warrant was issued for Boyce in the days that followed the fatal hit-and-run. She spent one week on the run before London police arrested her at a home on Florence St. November 28.

Word of a plea comes one week after Dean began resolution talks with the Crown, that could see Boyce plead to a less serious charge.

Titus' brother Bob Chemney was in the courtroom for the brief appearance Wednesday. After hearing that Boyce is moving toward a plea he simply said "we will have to see what happens."

Boyce's appearance on Friday will also be by video.
