Drivers Told To Slow Down

Provincial police are reminding motorists to take it slow on snow covered roads after being called to several weather related collisions outside of London on Tuesday.

A northbound sedan veered over the centre line and collided with a southbound pickup truck on Hyde Park Rd. near Medway Rd. around 1pm. The sedan driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Earlier in the day, an empty propane truck had to be pulled from the centre median on Hwy. 402 near Colonel Talbot Rd.

"We have responded to multiple collisions on Hwy. 401, 402, and county roads. It has been a busy day," said Middlesex OPP Constable Max Gomez. "Speed remains a concern. Motorists need to slow down and give themselves more time to get to the places they need to be."

So far, none of the crashes police have been called to have resulted in serious injuries.

Environment Canada is forecasting lake effect snow squalls to drop up to 15 cm of snow overnight Tuesday, with another 5 cm to 10 cm possible Wednesday. Strong wind gusts up to 70 km/h could lead to whiteout conditions from blowing snow and reduce visibility for drivers.

"If you don't have to go anywhere, just stay home," said Gomez. "You can go out after plows have done their work and have cleared the roadways."

Inside London, the city has temporarily suspended permits for overnight parking on city streets so plows can properly clear the roads. In a Tweet, the city said it would update the public when the overnight parking ban is lifted.

The winter weather also led to the cancellation of over half a dozen flights at London International Airport.
