Caressant Care Admitting Residents Again

The nursing home where killer nurse Elizabeth Wettlaufer murdered seven of her eight victims is being allowed to accept new residents.

Caressant Care Woodstock announced Friday that the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care has lifted its order that stopped any new admissions at the nursing home. It will be allowed to admit new residents as of Monday, December 4.

A spokesman for Caressant Care Woodstock is thanking residents, their families and friends, staff, and the community for "support and words of encouragement over these very difficult months."

“The outpouring of support we have received has truly been touching. We will never forget the people who have stood by us through a very difficult time,” says Lee Griffi, manager of corporate communications. “We will be utilizing every available resource to make sure our new residents have a seamless transition into their new Home. Our current residents are certainly looking forward to making new friends and our front line staff members are ready to provide excellent care.”

The ministry's order to halt admissions was issued January 25, 2017 when then-interim Director of the Long Term Care Inspections Branch Karen Simpson stated her belief that there was a "risk of harm to the health or wellbeing of residents in the home or persons who might be admitted as residents."

Caressant Care Woodstock says it will work closely with the Placement Team at the South West Local Health Integration Network to ensure a smooth admission process.
