Teen Crash Victim Remembered

A London teen killed in a crash last week is being remembered by family and friends.

Tributes have poured in for 16-year-old Taryn "Tiger Lily" Hewitt. An online memorial for the teen has been posted through Shawn Jackson Funeral Home in St. Thomas.

Condolences have come from Taryn's former teachers among others.

Russ Lomas, who was Taryn's grade three teacher, wrote "I will always remember you as that little freckled bundle of energy that kept me busy the year I taught you, but even so, I always really enjoyed working with you. Taken far too early. My condolences to your family."

"Her smile lit up our classroom each and every day," wrote Katrina Brown, who taught Taryn for grade eight at June Rose Callwood Public School. "She was such a bright light. Even though I didn't get the chance to teach her for the full year, she definitely left a very big mark on my heart. Rest in peace Taryn."

Taryn is survived by her parents, two brothers, two grandmothers, as well as multiple aunts, uncles and cousins. At the request of the family, all funeral services will be private.

The St. Thomas native was killed Thursday when the vehicle she was a passenger in collided head-on with a tractor trailer outside of Hamilton. The crash is under investigation by the Special Investigations Unit.

Taryn's 15-year old boyfriend, Nathan Wehrle of Cambridge, also died at the scene.
