Knights Lose Fifth Straight 5-2

Gera Poddubnyi scored two goals in the Erie Otters' 5-2 win over the London Knights Saturday at Erie Insurance Arena.

The Knights continue to struggle to start the season, dropping their fifth contest in a row and to 1-6, for last place in the OHL Midwest Division.

It wasn't until late in the first period when Erie broke the scoreless tie. Jordan Sambrook collected his second goal of the season.

Sam Miletic put the Knights on the board at 8:29 in the second period to tie the game at one each. The Otters' offence took over after that as Kyle Maksimovich scored over three minutes later for a 2-1 Erie lead after two periods.

The Otters put up two back-to-back goals in the third period, off the sticks of Ivan Lodnia and Poddubnyi to extend the Erie lead to 4-1. London got a goal back at 11:52 in the third when Liam Foudy put his first puck in the net for the season.

Poddubnyi responded late in the third period with his second goal of the night.

Jordan Kooy faced 35 shots in goal for the Knights, stopping 30 of them for the loss. Troy Timpano had 19 saves for the Otters.

The Knights travel to Windsor Thursday night to face the rival Spitfires.
