Charges Laid After Gun Theft Leads To School Lockdowns

A London man is charged after a theft at a south end gun store led to lockdowns at three area schools.

Police were called around 1:50pm Wednesday to Bulls Eye London at 820 Wharncliffe Rd. S. A man had stolen two guns from the store and took off.

Because of the incident and the police search for a suspect, Sir Issac Brock Public School on St. Lawrence Blvd. and Arthur Ford Public School and St. Jude Catholic School on Viscount Rd. were put into lockdown for about 25 minutes.

Police say a suspect was found on Cheapside St. around 5:30pm and arrested without incident. Early Thursday morning, police searched a home on Cheapside and found one firearm. They are still looking for the other.

A 23-year-old man is charged with theft under $5,000, two counts of unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm, and two counts of carrying a firearm in a careless manner.
