UPDATE: Motorcyclist Dies After Crash On Hwy. 401 In Ingersoll

The westbound lanes of Hwy. 401 in Ingersoll have reopened, following a chain reaction crash that has claimed the life of one person.

The Ontario Provincial Police reported the collision around around 5:30pm on Friday, saying it involved two vehicles. However, police now say a total of five vehicles sustained damage in the crash.

Constable Stacey Culbert said a westbound motorcycle rear ended a Toyota car, which has stopped due to construction and lane reductions near Foldens Line. The Toyota was pushed forward in the crash and struck another vehicle ahead of it.  Another two vehicles were also rear ended as a result of the initial collision.

Culbert said the female motorcyclist was ejected and was rushed to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.  Her identity is being withheld until next of kin has been notified.

The other drivers involved suffered minor injuries.

The westbound lanes of the highway were closed for several at Foldens Line while police conducted an investigation. The highway was reopened just before 11:30pm.
