Plans For Old Kellogg Plant Being Unveiled

Londoners will get a clearer picture Wednesday on what the future holds for the former Kellogg plant on Dundas St.

E. & E. McLaughlin Ltd., a family owned and operated business based in Tillsonburg, and Tourism London are holding a joint news conference at the east-end property on Wednesday morning.

"We will be announcing some exciting news about the development plans," said E. & E. McLaughlin spokesperson Kris Dinel.

He also said the company will use the news conference as a way to clarify previous media reports about what it intends to do with the over nine hectare site.

According to a planning justification report, written by McLaughlin’s planning consultant, the owner of the old cereal plant envisions the land to be transformed into “a mixed-use, pedestrian-oriented, main street-style area with a range of small-to-medium scale commercial uses on the ground floor, with other uses such as offices, commercial schools and/or residential on the upper floors.” The report also states there is potential for a hotel and recreational facility.

A rezoning and development application still needs to go before the city's planning and environment committee. That's not expected to happen for several months.

The Kellogg plant was closed in December 2014 after 90 years in business, wiping out more than 500 full-time jobs.
