Driver Clocked 115 km/hr Over Speed Limit

A Belmont woman has been charged after a vehicle was clocked in London traveling 175 km/hr in a 60 km/hr zone.

The Ontario Provincial Police say on Monday around 12:30pm, officers pulled the red Nissan Altima over in the westbound lanes of Manning Dr., after it was spotted traveling at the high rate of speed.

The driver told the officer she was late for work.

"This is a clear example of what not to do. 175 km/h is too fast, regardless of the posted speed limit. A bump on the road would cause this driver to lose control with catastrophic consequences," said Constable Max Gomez in a media release. "Speeding and aggressive driving are one of the leading causes of injury and death on our roadways. Without a doubt, our officers prevented a tragedy today."

A 22-year-old Belmont woman is now charged with racing a motor vehicle.  Her vehicle will be seized for seven days, and her driver's licence has been suspended for seven days.
