Cops Collecting School Supplies

It won't be long before kids in London head back to school, and London's police officers want to make sure all kids go back with enough supplies.

The London Police Association is again partnering with the United Way of London & Middlesex to collect school supplies for less-fortunate kids.

Association President Rick Robson says the reality is, some children in our community are facing the prospect of returning to school without some of the basic necessities.

"Being on the front lines, we see this everyday. We deal with families every day. We deal with kids everyday. Regardless of the scenario, the kids never put themselves in these circumstances. They don't have a choice," he says. "These kids go to school, they don't have backpacks, they don't have school supplies. It's hard enough when you have all the opportunities available to you to go through school and succeed. So, imagine going to school and not having the proper supplies. If we can help fill some of those gaps, then we're glad to help."

Police and the United Way are asking for donations of the following items.

• Lunch bags • Exercise booklets • Rulers • Round tip scissors • Pencil sharpeners • Glue sticks • Pencil crayons • Erasers • Duotangs • Binders • Pens • Pencil cases • Markers • Dividers • 3-hole lined paper • Wax crayons • Reusable snack/drink containers • Calculators/Scientific calculators • Pencils • Highlighters

Donations can be dropped off at London Police Service Headquarters at 601 Dundas St. or at the London Police Association office at 330 William St.
