Police Seek Arsonist After Park Blaze

A blaze inside a public washroom at an Ilderton park has been determined to be arson.

Fire crews were called to a fire at the public washroom at Deer Haven Optimist Park around 11pm last Saturday. Firefighters quickly doused the flames, which caused damage to wood and vinyl materials, as well as smoke damage inside the washroom.

Middlesex OPP say their investigation has found flammable material inside the structure was intentionally set on fire. So far, no arrests have been made in relation to the case.

"The damage to this shared community resource has a direct impact on those who use the park during the busy summer months," said police in a release issued Tuesday.

The washroom has been closed to the public since the fire and will remain closed until the damage is repaired. Damage is estimated at $10,000.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
