Several Charges Laid In Hwy. 401 Traffic Blitz

Multiple drivers have been charged in a traffic safety blitz conducted in different areas along Hwy. 401.

Elgin County OPP say officers monitored both the east and west bound lanes of the Hwy. 401 corridor on June 20.

Officers kept an eye out for aggressive drivers, which resulted in several vehicles being stopped.

Police say the drivers of 21 passenger vehicles, 19 tractor trailers, and a school bus were handed charges.

The charges include:

  • 18 Speeding
  • 19 Following Too Close
  • One Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
  • Four Other Highway Traffic Act
  • One Other Provincial Offences Act
  • One Commercial Motor Vehicle Infraction
Meanwhile, Middlesex OPP conducted a separate traffic blitz on June 21.

Police say it took place along the Hwy. 401 corridor in Middlesex County.

Charges were laid against the drivers of 14 passenger vehicles, 19 tractor trailers, and a motorcycle.

When broken down the charges include:

  • 13 Speeding
  • 18 Following Too Close
  • Two Unsafe Load
  • Five Other Highway Traffic Act Infractions
Police say aggressive driving is one of the top four factors that leads to fatalities in Ontario. Drivers are being reminded to drive carefully and be patient on the roads this summer.
