Volunteer Group Donates $250K To London Public Library

A program to develop creative spaces at the Central Library in London is getting a significant boost, thanks to donation from a local volunteer group.

During an event celebrating local author Emma Donoghue on Thursday, the Friends of the London Public Library  announced that it is donating $250,000 to the library's Infinite Possibilities Campaign.

Scott Courtice, the chair of the London Public Library Board, said the donation will help the library move the campaign forward at the Central Library in a significant way.

“As we gather to celebrate the brilliance and creativity of Emma Donoghue, I am reminded of the critical role that your library plays in nurturing our community’s creative and intellectual potential and in supporting literacy and lifelong learning,” said Courtice in a news release. “The support of the Friends of the London Public Library will help us to ensure that creativity flourishes, ideas have a home, and every community member is meaningfully supported in learning, sharing and creating at their Library now and into the future.”

The donation comes as the London Public Library works to raise $1-million in a fundraising campaign that will support the development of the creative spaces on the Central Library's main floor.  Once established, the interior spaces will allow for innovative programming, connect community members technology resources, foster intergenerational learning, and will help improve social connectivity.

In the last 24 years, volunteers with the Friends of the London Public Library have raised $1.6-million dollars to support Library programs and services.
