Pedestrian Hit By Vehicle

A 27-year-old pedestrian is in hospital after being hit by a vehicle in east London.

The man was walking across Dundas St., just east of Clarke Rd. when he was hit by an eastbound Toyota sedan around 12:30pm on Thursday.

Police say the pedestrian was not within the crosswalk when he was struck. He was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The woman driving the sedan was shaken but otherwise unhurt.

Constable Jessica Mullen said the collision highlights the importance of pedestrians always using marked crosswalks when crossing the street, especially near busy intersections.

"The crosswalks are there for many reasons. One being that we want to be visible when vehicles are coming up to an intersection," said Mullen. "The reason for those crosswalks is so pedestrians can remain safe in the marked lines and they know when a safe time to cross is."

Police closed the eastbound lanes of Dundas St. at Clarke Rd. for just over an hour and a half as they investigated the crash. All lanes were reopened shortly after 2pm.
