Donation For School Nutrition

The Jumpstart Student Nutrition program at local school boards is getting a boost while students ramp up excitement for the Mastercard Memorial Cup.

Through the "Pucks for Bucks" initiative students at Corpus Christi Middle School were able to dress down with their favourite jersey and participate in a school wide shoot-out challenge.

They raised $1,000 that will stay locally to help provide breakfast and healthy snacks for students.

"The jump start program is a means of feeding students a health snack daily. Some schools provide meals ,some provide a health snack or snack cupboards. It's just a means of providing healthy eating throughout all the schools," says Brian Marenchin, principal of Holy Names school in Essex.

A total of 27 other schools from three local school boards took part in raising money for their own schools.

The fundraising was augmented by a donation of $2,500 from TeachersLife, a not-for-profit insurance company. This money will go in a general donation fund to help with equipment costs throughout the schools.
