Impaired Driving Charges Laid After Car Hits House

London police say impaired driving charges have now been laid after a couple was awakened by a car crashing into their house last week.

Around 4am last Wednesday, a Ford Mustang slammed into the front of a duplex on Culver Dr. The home belongs to Pauline and Joseph Morello, who were asleep in their upstairs bedroom when they were awakened by what Pauline described as a "a big, tremendous boom. Like a bomb at 4am."

The crash knocked brick off the two-storey home and caused structural damage estimated at $40,000.

Had it not been for the insistence of Joseph, Pauline would have been asleep on the downstairs sofa that sits in front of the window where the crash happened.

The Morello's neighbour, Anita Garnet, told police she saw two men walking away from the wreckage.

“I screamed at them to get back here, that they can’t just leave,” Garnet told BlackburnNews.com the day of the incident.

London police identified a man who showed up to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries shortly after the crash as the driver of the Mustang.

On Tuesday, police announced that a 37-year-old man is now charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, having over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood, and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

The man's name has not been released.
