UPDATE: One Dead, One Injured In Crash North Of London

A London man is dead and and a 16-year-old boy is fighting for his life after a serious crash north of London.

Middlesex OPP say a southbound silver Dodge pickup truck collided with a northbound Dodge minivan on Adelaide St. N, north of Fifteen Mile Rd. shortly before 8am on Tuesday.

The minivan driver, 69-year-old Gerry Cockburn of London, was killed in the crash. The driver of the truck, a 16-year-old male, was extricated from the vehicle and airlifted to hospital in critical condition. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

In a Periscope video from the scene, Sergeant Dave Rektor suggested weather may have been a factor.

"Fog is always an issue this time of year. The sun is up now, burning the fog off but that certainly wasn't the case earlier this morning," said Rektor. "When you're driving in foggy conditions make sure you have all of your lights on, front and back. Have your wipers ready and slow down, especially in rural Ontario."

Adelaide St. between Sixteen Mile Rd. and Fifteen Mile Rd. was closed for six hours to allow officers to investigate the crash. The road was reopened at 2pm.
