City Invites Richmond Row Businesses To Rapid Transit Talk

After complaints from some Richmond Row business owners that they weren't consulted enough on London's rapid transit plans, the city is extending an invitation to sit down and chat.

On Friday, businesses along Richmond Row recieved a letter from Acting City Manager Martin Hayward, inviting them to a group discussion to address concerns about how businesses will be affected by the construction of the rapid transit system and the loss of parking along Richmond St.

"We know that a massive construction project like Shift will require cooperation, communication and patience from the entire community," Hayward writes in the letter. "Every reasonable effort will being (sic) made to manage impacts on parking, access, and property both in the long term and during construction and I would like you to be part of that process."

Several businesses in downtown London have expressed concern about how their operations will be affected during the construction of the proposed underground tunnel that would take buses under Richmond Row.

The discussions will be held in committee rooms #1 and #2 at city hall at 4pm on Thursday, March 30. Hayward's letter says they will begin with a presentation that will include an update on where the city is in the planning and approval process, as well as the anticipated next steps.
