City Facing $53-Million Lawsuit

The City of London is facing a multi-million dollar lawsuit from a developer who claims the proposal for a rapid-transit system is hurting his plans for a development in the downtown core.

The London Free Press reports the owner of Danforth London Ltd. is seeking damages of $53-million. Tony Graat owns the property at King St. and Clarence St. and had planned a multi-tower development on the site, which is currently a parking lot.

That site is to become a central spot for the city's rapid transit plan.

According to the Free Press, that caused Graat to put his development plans on the shelf.

The statement of claim has not yet been tested in court.
