Owen Sound Stuffs Knights 7-3

Cordell James scored twice as the Owen Sound Attack beat the London Knights at home Saturday night 7-3.

Owen Sound pulls within two points of the Knights in the OHL Western Conference standings with 81 points, good for fourth place.  The Knights sit with the third seed and 85 points.

The scoring was opened by the Knights on a goal from Alex Formenton, his 15th goal of the year. Maksim Shusko tied the game up on the power play late in the opening period for a 1-1 score after 20 minutes of play.

Both teams exchanged goals in the second period, with London taking the lead on a Liam Foudy goal just before the halfway point of the frame. The Attack even the score again before the end of the period on a power play tally from James.  Again, the game was tied going into the dressing rooms, this time at 2-2.

The Attack exploded for five unanswered goals in the third period.  James got his second score of the game at 9:10 to give Owen Sound the lead for good.  Nick Suzuki then scored two straight, the first short-handed.  Jonah Gadjovich and Petrus Palmu sealed the win with goals for the Attack.

Michael McNevin turned away 31 of 34 London shots fired at him in goal for the Attack, and in the process set the franchise record for most wins in a season with 33.  Jordan Kooy took the defeat in net for the Knights, garnering 43 saves.

The Knights travel to Guelph Sunday afternoon while Owen Sound hosts the Erie Otters.
