Knights Fans Asked To Donate Socks

Collecting socks for those in need is the name of the game for the London Knights this Friday.

London's Ontario Hockey League team has partnered with the Salvation Army for Rock 'Em Sock 'Em a new charity drive to collect adult-size socks for those in need.

“Socks are often the most needed clothing item but the least donated. One in ten Canadians live in poverty. When you think about it, socks are a luxury that not all of us have,” said Shannon Wise, spokesperson for the Salvation Army. “Rock ’Em Sock ’Em is another way to help raise awareness around the issue of poverty in London.”

Hockey fans heading to the Knights' Friday night game against the Windsor Spitfires at Budweiser Gardens are asked to bring a pair of new socks to donate. Collection bins will be placed at the entrances of the venue.

All socks donated will go to The Salvation Army’s Centre of Hope and Operation Mobilizing Hope (Street Ministry) in London.

“The Knights are proud to call London home, and as such, we believe in supporting our community that are great supporters of us,” said Matt Gergely, director of game day operations for the London Knights. “Any time we are able to work with local charities on our game days or at any other time to help raise money or collect goods for those less fortunate, we are honoured to do so.”

Friday's game gets underway at 7:30pm.
